My current job has given me a new appreciation for the medicines I take in my day-to-day life like ibuprofen, paracetamol, my asthma inhaler etc. At one point all these medicines would have just been ideas, and without the hard work from dedicated scientists working in clinical trials these medicines would not be available to us. Can you imagine living in a world with no pain relief? No medication for your cold?
I hope one day I will have the proud achievement of working on a drug that gets approved to be sold to patients and help improve their lives.

Working in the Antarctic has made me realise a great number of things.

Having to live and work with a small number of people in a very isolated environment taught me a lot of things about getting on with others and being a good team player. We all have irritating habits (some more than others) and I learnt how important it is to talk about and share any problems you might be having. It really helps everyone get along.
Being away from my family and friends for long periods of time has also shown me how important they are to me.
I feel very lucky to have been able to live and work in such an amazing place as the Antarctic it has made me appreciate the planet we live on and how we must work really hard to protect it.

My current job has hugely impacted on my life! Obviously in day to day life, I come to work every weekday so it’s a big thing and it’s important to have good colleagues that you get on with to make work somewhere that you enjoy spending time. I am very lucky to have a wonderful team around me, and I love working with them every day. They know when to push me, which means that I have grown in confidence massively.
I have also been given the opportunity to travel a lot – I’ve been to conferences in cities all over the UK, South Africa, the US, I’ve been to meetings in Norway and Ireland, and given presentations to groups of people I would never have imagined wanted to listen to my ideas. The fact that my managers and wider team push me to do that is so exciting, and I’ve gone from being really nervous and stumbling over my words, to enjoying presentations in front of large groups of people. This new found confidence has impacted on every part of my life 🙂

I moved to London to take up my job in 2016 so it has changed my life a lot. I had never worked in a museum before. Life is busy, sometimes frantic, but I have always preferred that to having too little to do as I get bored easily.
