This is a really good question! I’d put more money into research into diseases that are linked to ageing – like Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. Our society is getting older meaning that there will be more old people than ever, and I think it’s important to put money into research that will make their lives easier and more enjoyable. I would also put more money into research around global warming, and how we can make sure that everyone in the world has enough food to eat whilst the environment is changing even more.
I’m a methodologist, so I’d also like to put more money towards improving the methods that we use to do experiments and research – that way we will hopefully get better quality results so that we can come up with better solutions to help make sure people are feeling well and are able to live well.
I like the answers given by Morwenna and Heidi. More research into the global environment could help to stop climate change and provide alternative energy sources to allow people to grow sufficient food.
There are so many different diseases out there that we have yet to find medicines to treat symptoms successfully or to even find a way to cure that disease I would love to help support all those diseases with unmet needs for medicines to help these patients. However, being more specific I would probably want to focus on heart disease as sadly I lost my grandfather to this a couple of years ago so personally I would like to find a cure to save other families suffering the way mine did.
