Family. Work can wait, and normally be picked up by your colleagues in your absence. We only however get one version of each of our loved ones and unfortunately life is sometimes all but brief so we must take as many opportunities to make memories with them.

Family! being away in the Antarctic for long periods of time (last year I was away for 3 months camping in tent on an isolated island) really shows you how important your family are and how muc you miss them.
I am very lucky in that my wife is very supportive of my trips away, as she has also worked and lived in the Antarctic. It is much harder to explain to my two children (7 & 5) that daddy won’t be home for months.
Still the Antarctic is an amazing place to work so I am still very lucky
