My favourite scientist is Florence Nightingale – did you know she is considered the first ever medical statistician? She used data analysis and visualization methods to demonstrate how more deaths in her hospitals were linked to poor hygiene than the battle wounds that soldiers came in with.

Lots of people, but the person that first got me interested in clinical trials was Ben Goldacre – he’s written some really great books, ‘Bad Science’ and ‘Bad Pharma’ are particularly good and I’d recommend you read them! He is a really good public speaker and makes science sounds super exciting and he also just comes across like a really normal person – that made me think that maybe I could be a science too?! He started as a doctor and is now a doctor, epidemiologist, researcher and science communicator.

He did a TED talk a while ago, if you’ve got 15 minutes spare you should watch it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4MhbkWJzKk

Well he is not strictly a scientist but David Attenborough has been inspiration to me and thousands of people worldwide. He has raised awareness of the issues facing our planet and revealed the amazing word of so many different animals.
I was lucky enough to see him give a lecture recently and he did not disappoint. What an amazing and brilliant person he is.
